Google knowledge graph: A nice improvement on search

Google’s new knowledge graph makes search more interesting though it still seems limited. Search for Barack Obama and you are greeted with the president’s picture, biographical information and other people Google users search for — Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, Rick Perry. Search for a city and you’ll likely receive population information and a Google map. Search for a landmark and it’s so-so. The Tower of London produced a map and pictures. The Eiffel Tower? Strangely nothing.

I look forward to seeing how it evolves.

Student group tries to class up CU-Boulder campus on 4/20

A group calling itself “Stay classy CU” is organizing an anti-420 campaign tomorrow. My alma mater is well known for its celebration of all things pot-related, and officials expect more than 10,000 people to fog Boulder’s clear skies with a slight haze. More than 600 people have committed on Facebook to don suits and ties in protest of the non-sanctioned event.

More amusing - the 77 people who RSVP’d as a maybe for the counter protest.

Tired of bouncing between your phone, your laptop, work machine and tablet computer? Motorola has created the Atrix 4G, a mobile phone that actually functions as the processor for your laptop. Very cool concept and long overdue. The downside: to connect to the Internet, you have to use AT&T. Oh, and there are other bugs.

I’m hoping Motorola sticks with this concept, though. I think it’s a winner.

So Amazon.com actually suggested I buy this laser toy for my cats after I bought them a jungle gym. I showed my friend the link and she immediately bought it. After she received it, she quickly decided against exposing her pets to it. Radioactive. Could blind the cats. Really??? I think I’ll pass. But thanks for test driving it, Suzie!

Maybe the Mayans had it wrong. Or maybe this killer astroid will strike the burned-out shell of our planet 24 years too late. Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean the Earth isn’t going to end…

Is our salvation on another planet?:

One of my friends started a blog about strange events that could be related the Mayan prophecy regarding 2012. It’s a fun read. I’m thinking about starting a related blog about possible ways to survive 2012. Here’s a thought: What if we could escape to one of these planets? What if there is intelligent life on them? Perhaps advanced enough to save us from doomsday - either one that we create or one the Mayan’s foretell?
